The Journy so far…
What a long strange road its been,
The hammerheads were founded as a club in 2016, playing friendlies against local teams before becoming BAFA affiliated in 2017.
We initially competed in the South West Series before our debut league season in 2018 where we ended with a 2-10 loosing record.
Subsequent seasons saw us moving from strength to strength though.
2019 bought a 7-8-1 record, before covid derailed club development and cancelled the 2020 season.
2021 showed another strong season, with a 9-2-1 record allowing us to finish 2nd in an all Welsh division.
2022 was a real show of strength with the team going 13-5, qualifying for the division 1 national finals before falling to a very strong Reading Devils in the final.
2023 was a similar story, with the squad going 13-2-1, again making the national finals, before coming up short against the London Spark to again finish 2nd, as well as failing to move to the premiership in the promotion playoffs.
2024 was the year of the Hammerhead however.
Debuting a 2nd team, the Swansea Frenzy, the Hammerheads managed to win the South West Series for the first time in the off-season, but putting out two very competitive sides every week in BAFA. The Frenzy finished the year 1-15, but played some very high quality ball along the way. It was a solid first season for the side, and certainly a platform we would like to build upon.
The Hammerheads decided 2nd wasn’t enough and went undefeated in the regular season with a 16-0 record. They then won every game at the promotion playoffs, securing a place in the premiership next season, before icing the cake with a national Division 1 title, finishing the year 22-0, after beating the Waveney Wolves in the final.
2025 brings a new chapter in the Hammerheads club life, hoping to stay in the premiership with the Hammerheads, and hopefully bringing the frenzy up to join them!!
